HAZEL JEAN HARKINS, age 92 of Portage, and formerly a longtime Hobart resident, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022.  She was born in Dawson, PA on May 23, 1930 to the late Clarence Edward and Maria Belle Keffer. Jean married Robert Jack Harkins on August 15, 1946 in Dawson, PA. They later moved to Hobart in 1962. Jean had formerly been a member of Christian Assembly of God and more recently had attended the 29 ^th Avenue Baptist Church. Jean worked for many years at Rees Funeral Homes as a visitation greeter.  Family meant everything to Jean.  She especially loved spending time with her grandkids and her phone visits with her nieces, Bonnie, Marlene and Audrey.  She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.  She will be dearly missed.

Jean is survived by her granddaughter, Denise (Frank) Diaz of Lake Station; 4 great grandchildren, Matthew (Katelyn) Diaz of Hobart, Jacob (Darby) Diaz, Joshua Diaz and Noah Diaz, all of Lake Station; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jack Harkins; son, Robert Harkins; daughter, Gloria (Earl) DeIulius; grandson, Robert DeIulius; brothers, Edward and William Keffer; sister, Thelma Foster.

Funeral services for Jean will be Wednesday, August 17, 2022 with visitation from 3:00-6:00 p.m. with 6:00 p.m. service at Rees Funeral Homes, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart.
