Helen D. Kolvek, age 100 years old, of Portage passed away peacefully on Friday August 2, 2024, at the Life Care Center of Michigan City. She was born September 4, 1923, in Gary, Indiana to the late Ralph and Dora Stiemert. She graduated from Lew Wallace High School in 1941. She worked on the line making women's hosiery at the Bear Brand Hosiery factory in Gary, Indiana during WWII. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Wards Department Store in Gary. On May 27, 1944, she married Albert E. Kolvek, Sr. They were blessed with two children, Doris and Albert, Jr.

Helen is survived by her son, Albert E. (Patty) Kolvek, Jr. of LaPorte; a son-in-law Bill Haddix; two granddaughters, Lisa (Scott) Bove, and Michelle (Andrew) Atkinson; two grandsons, Nathan Kolvek, and Mike (Betsy) Haddix; five great grandchildren, Amber, Brianna, Chase, Joshua, and Bailey; and nine great-great grandchildren, Aria, Bray, Brinley, Brody, Francis, Hadley, Kal, Kannon, and Mazie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert E. Kolvek, Sr., and daughter, Doris Haddix.

Helen wished to be cremated and her ashes to be buried in Calumet Park Cemetery at a future date. Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, Indiana 46342 was entrusted with Helen's services.
