HELEN T. MATTIE, age 96, of Crown Point, and formerly of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 27, 1919 to the late Vincent and Petronela Szczepaniak. Helen was a Hobart resident for over 50 years and a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, where she was a member of the St. Anne's Confraternity. Helen also belonged to the Daughters of Isabella. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Helen is survived by her 4 children, Carolyn Hepler of Lake Station, Marjorie (Gordon) Taylor of LaCrosse, George (Linda) Mattie of Davenport, FL, and Marcia (Carl) Horst of Crown Point; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 19 great-great grandchildren; and other loving family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, George; grandson, Jeffrey Hepler; 2 brothers, Frank and Walter Szczepaniak; 2 sisters, Jenny Juzwicki and Regina Gospodarek Zytko.

Visitation for Helen will be Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 4:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd. There will be additional visitation at church on Wednesday from 9:00 until the time of Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 568 Second St., Hobart, with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino celebrating and Rev.
