Helen Bernice Simmons

Clermont, Florida – Helen Bernice Simmons, age 95, passed away January 16, 2025. Born and raised in Southern Illinois, she married William "Bill" Simmons, and they were together 77 years. They moved to Hobart, IN with their four children in 1960, where Bill began a career in construction. They raised their children in the Gary United Pentecostal Church, now Life Sanctuary, and they actively served and supported the church for 50 years. After Bill retired, they bought a condo near Tampa, FL and spent the winters there for 20 years.  Helen loved collecting Tiara glass and a gallery of over 300 dolls.  Together, they went to doll shows around Florida and made many wonderful "doll friends." They moved in 2010 to Clermont to be close to their children.  Helen especially enjoyed time with family, church family and friends,  but nothing brought more smiles and joy than times with her grandchildren.

She is survived by sister, Betty (Bob) Johnson, Southern Illinois; son, William (Judith) Simmons, Jr.; daughters, Frances (Ron) Winiarczyk, Jayne Ann (Dave) Atherton, all of Clermont, FL.; 10 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Simmons; son, John Simmons; parents, John and Audrey Cockrum; brother, Harold Cockrum.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 31, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A funeral service will take place Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10:00 am at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.
