Helen Stapinski- Vasquez, age 90, of Portage passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017. She was born in Gary, Indiana on October 27, 1926. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Portage and enjoyed spending her time at the Bonner Senior Center. Helen will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Helen is survived by her son, Joseph Stapinski of Valparaiso; daughter, Carol (John) Leith of South Dakota; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews other loving family members and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph F. Stapinski; second husband, Ruben Vasquez; son, Lawrence Stapinski; two sisters, Clara and Susan and two brothers, John and Joe Kish.
A funeral service for Helen will take place Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, IN 46368 with Pastor Tim Reyna, officiating. A Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. A Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home. For more information, please call 219-762-3013.
