HERMAN H. DARKIS, age 79, of Lake Station, passed away Monday, September 2, 2013 at Vibra Hospital in Crown Point. Herman was a retired metallurgist having been employed at Republic Steel. He was a vintage car buff and affectionately known to his family as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by 2 sons, Danny (Jeanette) Darkis and Lee Darkis, both of Lake Station, 2 daughters, Tammy Douglas of Hobart, Herma (Damian) Franchville, also of Lake Station, sister, Linda (Perry) Divley of Pimento, IN, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela in January of 2012, granddaughter, Lynn Franchville, sister, Ethel Zink, son-in-law, Leonard Douglas and 5 brothers.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 6, 2013 at 2:30 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Hobart.
