Humberto "Berto" Viera

It is with great sadness and disbelief that we announce the sudden passing of Humberto (Berto) Viera of Fort Myers, Florida on May 21, 2023, at the age of fifty-three.

He was our beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Viera-Velazquez.

Berto is survived and will be remembered by his former wife of twenty-two years, Margarita (Margie) Martinez and their son Christian Viera of Florida. He will be greatly missed by his mother, Maria (Carmen) Velazquez of Indiana; siblings, William (JR) Viera-Velazquez of Indiana, Madeline Viera-Velazquez of Indiana, Edwin Viera-Velazquez of Indiana, Celenia (Paul) Schmitt of Florida, Eric (Maribel Alvarez) Viera-Velazquez of Indiana, and Melissa (Frank A.) Chabes, Jr. of Indiana, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Humberto (Berto) Viera was born in Gary, Indiana on February 13, 1970, and graduated from Wirt High School in 1988. He moved to Miami, Florida in 1989 and ultimately to Fort Myers, where he started a career in the United States Postal Service in May of 2000 and has worked there for the past twenty-three years.

Berto was a great person and he loved and cared for everyone around him whether it was his family, friends, or his co-workers. We will forever keep him in our hearts and he will never be forgotten. We love him.

A visitation in Florida will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, 4320 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33966.

Following the visitation in Florida, the family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, IN 46368 on Friday June 2, 2023, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:00 pm. Pastor Juaquin Rodriguez will officiate.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday June 3, 2023, at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery 2701 Willowdale Road, Portage, Indiana.
