Inez Spencer (nee Courtney)

Age 76, of Portage passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Northwest Porter Hospital. She was born on October 22, 1947, to the late Joseph Courtney and Mary Thomas. She was a Republic Steel retiree, where she worked as a crane operator. Inez was a Chicago Cubs fan, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling, fishing, and camping, and was a very talented cake decorator, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Inez is survived by her two daughters, Stephanie (Daniel) Flynn of Westville and Susan (Matthew) Birdsey of Dowagiac, Michigan; five grandsons, Steven Parrott, Jacob Espinoza, Zachary Birdsey, Hunter Flynn, and Dylan Birdsey; brother, Joseph "Lee" (Donna) Courtney; sister, Twyllah Dammarell, many nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kendall Allan Spencer, her father, Joseph Courtney and mother, Mary Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association 55 W Wacker Dr STE 1150, Chicago, IL 60601 in memory of Inez would be appreciated.

A memorial service will be held March 17, 2024 at 3:00pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, Indiana. A memorial visitation will also be held March 17, 2024 from 1:00 pm until the time of service also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel .
