Ira Anthony Glover, age 54, of Valparaiso passed away Sunday March 1, 2026, in the Northwest Health-Porter hospital in Valparaiso. He Was born May 18, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois to Robert and Delores (Dale) Glover. He was a truckdriver for Mark One Trucking. Ira was a US Naval Veteran. Ira was a passionate, kind, and giving man. He would do anything for his family, friends, veterans, and fellow riders. He loved hunting with his father-in-law, Jerry, and Jason, and cherished the time they spent together. His greatest passion, however, was his wife, children, and grandchildren, along with his unwavering dedication to the American Legion. Ira devoted his life to supporting and honoring our veterans. He stood beside them not only in words, but in action—always ready to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or step up wherever he was needed. Whether organizing events, participating in rides, or simply being there to listen, he made it his mission to ensure that no veteran felt forgotten or alone. He led with generosity, loyalty, and heart. Ira’s legacy is one of service, sacrifice, and steadfast love for both his family and his country. He will be deeply missed, but the impact he made on the lives of so many will live on forever.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #502, the Sons of the American Legion Post #502 American Legion Riders Post #502 and the Post #502 Honor Guard. Ira Held many positions within the American Legion; including, State of Indiana American Legion Riders (ALR) Northern Assistant Director, State of Indiana ALR Oversite Committeeman, Indiana Veteran’s Home Liaison, State of Indiana District 2 Vice Commander, District 2 Co-Adjutant, District 2 Chair, American Legion Post 502 Robert Paul Strange-South haven Past Commander, Sons of the American Legion Post 502 Adjutant, American Legion Post 502 Honor Guard, the American Legion Riders Post 502 Director, and NWI Veteran’s Village Advocate.
Ira is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Detra (Kidwell) Glover of Valparaiso; his mother, Delores (Dale) Glover of McHenry, Illinois; two daughters, Angelika (Christopher Serrano) Glover of Valparaiso, and Darlene (Michael Morales) Glover of Valparaiso; five grandchildren, Carter Glover, Precella Serrano, Christopher Serrano, JR., Kai Glover, and Koleson Morales; a brother, Troy Kidwell of Portage; three sisters, Rebecca Glover of McHenry, Illinois, Tracy(Ronnie) Thompson of Portage, Helen (Jason) Yates of Hobart; and many dear friends and other relatives. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Bonnie Kidwell.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Glover, and father-in-law, Jerry Kidwell.
Visitation for Ira will be from 11 am to 1 pm Saturday March 7, 2026, at the Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue Portage, Indiana 46368. His funeral service will follow immediately including an Auxiliary Poppy Service, ALR Memorial Service (both state and local) Sons of the American Legion Post 502 Memorial Service, American Legion Post 502 Memorial Service, and American Legion Post 502 Honor Guard Service.
ALR Post 502 Riders and Fellow Riders are encouraged to wear their vests and ride in procession (Weather Permitting) from American Legion Post 502 to the Funeral Home and then back to Post 502 at 429 County Road 450 North Valparaiso, Indiana 46385 for a Post Service Dinner.
