Irene Curtis, age 89, a former longtime resident of Lake Station passed away peacefully at her home in Kouts on Saturday, April 9, 2011. She was born on September 3, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Pisarski. Irene was married to Louis Curtis on September 12, 1946. Irene was a member of Assumption B.V.M. Church and a former member of Holy Family Church in Gary. Irene was also a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 246 in Hobart and the Hobart Seniors. She enjoyed crocheting, crafting, beads, and playing cards.
Irene is survived by her loving family, daughters Carroll (Frank) Morris, Valparaiso, and Sharon (Ray) Lawson, Kouts, sons Russell Curtis, Argos, and Kenneth (Belinda) Curtis, Wanatah, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, sister Pearl (Larry) Pelka, Portage, brothers Albert (Pat) Pisarski, Salome, AZ, Chester (Betty) Pisarski, Valparaiso, and Robert (Joan) Pisarski, Hobart, and other loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis Curtis, son Keith Curtis, brothers Walter, Alex, Frank, Edward, and Raymond Pisarski, and sister Eleanor Labash.
A visitation for Irene Curtis will be held from 9:00 am to 9:45 am on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with morning prayers at 9:45 am. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am at Assumption B.V.M Church, 3530 Illinois Street, New Chicago, with Father Lourdu Pasala, officiating. Cremation will follow with a burial of cremains at Angel Crest Cemetery in Valparaiso. Memorials in Irene's memory may be made to the Lake County Cancer Society, the V.N.A.
