Irene A. Czaja

Irene A. Czaja, age 97, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at Crown Point Health Campus.She was born on June 21, 1928, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Albert and Sophie (nee Wisneski) Gemeinhart. Irene was a feisty, strong, and opinionated woman whose determination carried her through many illnesses and challenges throughout her life. Despite everything she endured, her greatest joy was always her family. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild, and treasured every moment spent with them.

She is survived by her two daughters, Donna Czaja and Pam (Mike Morris) Stanchina; her grandchildren, Stacy, Lisa and Jason; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Zackory, Jaden, Karissa and Samantha; and great-great-granddaughter, Iris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Czaja Sr.; her son, Stanley Czaja Jr.; and her parents, Albert and Sophie Gemeinhart; and three sisters, Elizabeth, Dorothy, and Lucille.

Irene will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

A funeral service for Irene will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 10:00 am with Deacon Micheal Booth officiating at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel. 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation for Irene will be held Friday, May 15, 2026, from 3:00-7:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
