Irene Czekala

Irene (nee Sokolowski) Czekala, age 88 of Hobart passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017. She was born on May 25, 1928 in Gary, Indiana to the late Benny and Lottie (nee Fialkowski) Sokolowski. She was an attendee of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Hobart. She was a member of the American Legion Post 207 Ladies Auxiliary and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by three children, Brian Czekala, Anthony (Debbie) Czekala of Rochelle, Brenda (Daniel) Charbonneau; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley; two sons, Dorian and Stanley; daughter, Cynthia; four brothers, Johnnie, Joe ,Walter and Benny; two sisters, Cecilia and Helen numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends.
Funeral service for Irene will be Friday April 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, with Rev. David Nowak, officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Visitation is Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
