Irma M. Sheets

Age 94 of Portage passed away peacefully at Millers Merry Manor. She was born on April 28, 1930, in Gary, Indiana to the late Charles and Irma (nee Penke) Grennes. She was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church in Portage. Irma was employed as a bookkeeper at Comays Jewelers for several years and also performed bookkeeping duties at her church, 1st Presbyterian in Portage.  Her hobbies included crocheting, cooking, butterflies, and her family, with her special fondness for her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend. The family would like to thank the staff at Miller's Merry Manor in Portage and the VNA Hospice staff for their care and loving support for Irma.

Irma is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Robert) Kostbade; four grandchildren, Natalie (Frank) Banyai, Kelly (Dave) Barrasas, Bob (Christy) Kostbade and David (Holli) Kostbade; 18 great grandchildren, Jordan (Mitch) Kujawski, Samantha Farber, Jacob Farber, Nicholas Farber, Taylor Shapiro, Michael Shapiro, Luke Shapiro, David (Jasmine) Kostbade, Erin Barrasas, Elizabeth Barrasas, Jack Barrasas, Zach Barrasas, Olivia Barrasas, Ryan Barrasas, Peyton (Anaca) Kostbade, Cole Kostbade, Cash Kostbade, and Paxton Kostbade; five great-great grandchildren; Landon, Hudson, Nash, Beckett and Leighton Kujawski; sister Gloria (Dominic) Notaro and several nieces and nephews and other loving family members.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jacob Sheets, her parents, Charles and Irma Grennes and her two brothers, Charles and Gerald (Barbara) Grennes.

A funeral service for Irma will be held Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11am at Rees Funeral Home 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342. The burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville. A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 3:00-7:00 pm also at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
