Jack L. Martin, age 89 passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at his home. He was born on December 28, 1925 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Clarence and Flora (nee Cox) Martin. Jack was a 1987 retiree of US Steel Crane Operator and Millwright. On January 18, 1947, Jack married his late wife Marcella Bryant in Harlan, Kentucky. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Europe and Asia. He re-entered the service in 1949 and served in the Korean Conflict where he was captured by the North Koreans and was a prisoner of war for 37 months, he was also a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend.
Jack is survived by his two sons; Rev. Jack Lee (Barbara) Martin of Fulton, MO. and Jay Rodney (Deborah) Martin of Hobart; daughter, Minnie Kay (Steve) Augustinovich of South Haven; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella; three brothers, Edward, Marcus and Elza Davis.
A funeral service for Jack will take place Tuesday December 8, 2015 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342, with Rev. John C. Allen officiating. Visitation for Jack will be held Monday, December 7, 2015 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery.
