Jack R. Way, age 69, of Portage, IN and formerly of Cedar Lake, IN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

Jack was born on December 6, 1953 in Gary, IN to the late Clarence and Virginia (nee Thurnhill) Way.  He worked as a mechanic for many years with Wideco in Cedar Lake, Oil & Go in Crown Point, and Multi-State Transmission in Merrillville.  Being a mechanic wasn't just his job, it was his hobby too.  He was a faithful member of New Life Community Church for six years. Jack married Kathy Bartholomew on June 29, 1985 and they spent 38 loving years together.

Jack was big fan of NASCAR and amusement parks, especially Indiana Beach.  He was an outdoorsman and liked to camp and fish.  Jack was an avid watcher of The Three Stooges and M*A*S*H, and also enjoyed watching Youtube videos.  He was a dedicated and loving father and adored his family.  Jack will forever be remembered for his kindness toward others, funny jokes, stubbornness, and love of root beer.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jack is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy; children: Jack Way, Jr., Jeremy Way, Jeremiah Way, Jerry (Sherrie) Bartholomew, and Amanda (Anthony) Forsythe; grandchildren: Alyson (David) Edgington, Alexander, Ashlynn, Jasmine, and Angelita Bartholomew; twin brother: Jim (Becky) Way; siblings: Delvin Way, Pat (Larry) Carlin, Cheryl (Jerry) Porter, and JoAnn Conrad; and beloved dogs: Bella and Finnegan.

Jack is preceded in death by his son: Jerry Ray; parents: Clarence and Virginia; and sister: Shiela Kruger.

Family and friends may gather at New Life Community Church (1 N Pennsylvania St., Hobart) on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 P.M.  A Funeral Service will take place immediately following visitation at 4:00 P.M.  Cremation will follow funeral services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Way Family or to New Life Community Church.
