James Winfield Bradford, age 74, of Lake Station, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015. He was born on December 13, 1940 in Gary, Indiana. On July 29, 1965, he married the love of his life, Cheryl Hall. He worked as a service technician for Xerox. Jim will always be remembered for his benevolence and dedication to the community of Lake Station. He served as Assistant Chief and Secretary for the Lake Station Volunteer Fire Department. He was at one time a member of the board for the Indiana Volunteer Fireman's Association. Jim was also a lifelong member of the Lake Station Chamber of Commerce and a member of the America Legion Post 100. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Bradford; son, James (Cheryle) Bradford II; daughter, Donna (Guy) Atchison; grandchildren, Andrew, Ben and Scott Atchison, Connor Bradford; sister, Janice (Glen) Keesler; nieces, Michelle, Melissa and Marie Keesler; many other loving family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Genevive Bradford. Memorial contributions in Jim's name may be made to the Lake Station Volunteer Fire Department, 1876 Central Avenue, Lake Station, Indiana 46405.
A fireman's service will take place for Jim on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 7:30 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be held Friday, May 15, 2015 from 2:00-5:00 pm and from 7:00-9:00 pm at the funeral home.
