James J. "Jack" Mathis

JAMES "JACK" MATHIS, age 80, of Portage, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Valparaiso. He was born on August 15, 1935 in Garyton, Indiana. Jack married Patricia Clemens on June 25, 1960 in Gary, Indiana. He had worked as a supervisor at Bethlehem Steel and eventually retired from Raytheon Engineering. Jack was an avid fisherman, hunter, and bowler and was a member of the Gary Sportsman's Club.

Jack is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Pat; son, Scott (Amy) Mathis of Valparaiso; 2 daughters, Lisa (Mark) Lucas of Santa Fe, NM and Joan Barnes of Portage; 6 grandchildren, Jordan, Lauren, and Kaylee Mathis, Michael, Nathan, and Carley Barnes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Anna (Graban); and sister, Shirley (Fred) Lewin.
