James L. Johnson, age 73, of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018. He was born on April 5, 1945 in Gary, Indiana to the late John and Alma Johnson. Jim was a graduate of Hobart High School class of 1963.  He was a lifetime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #150. Jim loved his family and friends and will always be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand. Above all, he was a family man and cherished the time he spent with them.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sandra (nee Cary) Johnson; son, Scott (Heidi) Johnson of Hobart; daughters, Tracy (Paul) Coppola of Wall, NJ, Cary (Craig) Schiess of Hobart, Kelly (Steven) McDonald of Hobart; grandchildren, Samantha (Tony) Molinaro, Kyle Johnson, Bradley Potts, Audrey Slicker, Madalynn Slicker, Alexis Coppola, Brielle Coppola, Brogan McDonald; brother, John (Laurel) Johnson of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alma Johnson; brother, Jeffrey Johnson; sister-in-law, Barbara Johnson; brother-in-law, Michael Cary. Memorial contributions in Jim's name may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association Foundation, 2401 Valley Drive Valparaiso, IN 46383.

A memorial service for Jim will take place Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 6:30 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart.
