James "Jimmie" Metz, age 87, of Hobart, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso.  He was born at home in Gary, Indiana on May 12, 1931 to the late Alex and Jenny Metz. Jimmie was a proud member of the United States Navy. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 454 in New Chicago.

Jimmie is survived by his sons, Michael (Cathy) Metz, Steven Metz; grandchildren, Nicole (Ashley) Owens, Courtney (Zach) Hanes-Metz, Alex (Halie) Metz, Ashley Metz; and loving step grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Patricia (nee Ray) Metz; daughter, Pamela Hamilton; and sister, Dorothy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion, Post 454, 3139 Michigan St, Hobart, IN 46342.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 12:00 pm with Rev. Lourdu Pasala officiating at Calvary Cemetery, 2701 Willowdale Rd.
