JAMES H. RAINES, age 80, of Hobart, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Aperion Care in Michigan City. He was born on November 26, 1935 in New Market, TN. Jim was a 1955 graduate of Rolling Prairie High School and a veteran of the US Army. He worked as a truck driver for 41 years at the Co-Op, starting in Porter County and retiring from the LaPorte County location. Jim was a member of Valparaiso Baptist Church. In his free time he enjoyed coin collecting, listening to Elvis music and watching John Wayne movies and IU Basketball. Jim will be remembered as a loving brother, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his 4 sisters, Anna Bell of LaPorte, Dorothy (Les) Krause of Oakwood, GA, Helen Ackley of Westville, and Linda (George) Davis of Chesterton; many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary H. Raines; 2 brothers, Harold and David Raines; and 2 sisters, Agnes Papaioannou and Shirley Greer.

Funeral services for Jim will be Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12 Noon, with Rev. Kenneth Gamblin and Rev. Robert Liedtke officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home with cremation at a later time. There will be a private burial of cremains at Graceland Cemetery in the spring.
