James L. Redd

James L. Redd, age 78, a longtime resident of Portage, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2011. He was born on December 3, 1932 in Allenport, Pennsylvania, the son of Andrew and Grace Miller. James proudly served his country in the United States Army. Jim was married to Bonnie McCullough on August 4, 1955 in Pennsylvania and they have celebrated 56 years of marriage. Jim worked as a scarfer for United States Steel and retired 1987. Jim was a member of TOPS # 1377 since 1998 and was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church of Portage. His great joy was collecting trains. Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend to all.

Jim is survived by his loving family; wife Bonnie Redd, Portage, daughter Deborah Redd, Portage, grandchildren Jaime Nolan, Antioch, Illinois, and Justin (Emily) Nolan, Lafayette, Indiana, sisters Lois Weekly, Ruby (Don) Romito, and Beverly (Kenneth) Baringer, all of Pennsylvania, and other loving family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Doris Lauder.

A visitation for James Redd will be held from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home, with Pastor Sumit Sen, officiating. Cremation will follow.
