Age 61, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 at his home. James was born February 27, 1951 to Walter and Evelyn Slamkowski in Hammond, Indiana. On August 28, 1971 James married Patricia Heffernan in Irene, South Dakota. He was a retired Electrician for Arcelor Mittal, a member of the Ogden Dunes Lions Club, and volunteered at the National Lake Shore and the Portage food pantry. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years; Patricia Slamkowski of Ogden Dunes- Portage, son; Tim Slamkowski of Chicago, Illinois, daughter; Chris (Jeff) Johnston of Portage, 2 grandchildren; Avery and Zoe Johnston, brothers; Bob (Margie) Slamkowski of Ogden Dunes- Portage, and Steve (Peggy) Slamkowski of Illinois, sister Karen (Pete) Geisser of Illinois, many nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012, 4:00pm at the Ogden Dunes Fire Department Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the American Cancer Society, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Portage Food Pantry. Arrangements were made by Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana 46368.
