James E. Stoehr

James E. Stoehr, age 79, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026. He was born on January 1, 1947, in Hammond, Indiana, to the late Melton and Evelyn (Cole) Stoehr.

James was a retired union meat cutter who enjoyed camping, spending time outdoors, target shooting, and refinishing furniture. An avid outdoorsman, he appreciated nature and the simple pleasures of being outside. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

James is survived by his brother, Joel Stoehr, and James’ three children: Mike (LeeAnn) Stoehr of Portage, Indiana; Lisa (Jerry) Woodard of Westville, Indiana; and Alexander T. (Sylvia) Stoehr of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Sarah (Steve) Marrow, Zac (Jaimee) Stoehr, Natasha (Datin) Ringas, Ian Woodard, Madalynne Stoehr, Alexander J. Stoehr, and Dylan Stoehr; three great-grandchildren, Leona, Annika, and Asher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John “Jack” Stoehr; and his granddaughter, Sydney Woodard.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pin Hook Cemetery in La Porte, Indiana.
