James Richard Sweat "Dick", age 83, of Hobart passed away Sunday April 19, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born April 15, 1932, in Griffith, Indiana to the late George Washington and Margaret Louise-Bell (nee Mills) Sweat. He was an operating engineer who retired from A. Metz Sewer Contractor. Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Dick is survived by his loving children; two sons, James Richard (Paula) Sweat II of South Haven, George Dale (Stephanie) Sweat of Rensselaer; daughter, Peggy (Don) Driemeyer of Valparaiso; three grandchildren, Nichole Williams of South Haven, Erin and Taylor Parks of Valparaiso; four great-grandchildren, James, Reese, Brant and Avery; brother, David Robert Sweat "DeDe" of Valparaiso; and many other loving family members and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou Sweat; son, Jeffery Allen Sweat; brother, George William Sweat "Bud"; and sister, Elizabeth Eleanor Freeman "Sally". In lieu of flowers donations to the Veterans Park Administration in Munster would be appreciated. Funeral services are Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 12 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Bob Fulton officiating. Burial at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart.
