Janis Kaye Moore, 79, of Portage, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023.  She was born April 12, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and adopted by the late Raymond T. and Helma A. (Mieras) Moore at six days old.

Janis grew up in Iowa where she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism at the University of Iowa.  She was also an accomplished equestrian with her own horse for whom she cared.  She moved to Chicago and went to work for WCFL radio in Chicago and did voiceover work for live commercials.  When she moved to Indiana she worked for a while with the Humane Society and then went on to become a correspondent for the Post Tribune.  In her spare time, she loved caring for her many animals, especially her dogs.  Janis was sweet and kind, and everyone she ran into had a special place in their heart for her.  She will be greatly missed by her many friends.

Janis is survived by her brother, Ron (Maude) Moore; and two nieces.

There will be a visitation for Ms. Moore from 2:00-6:00pm Sunday, December 17 at Rees Funeral Homes, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana 46368, and Monday, December 18 from 9:00am – 11:00am with service to follow at 11:00am, also at Rees Olson Chapel.  Burial will take place immediately following the funeral service at Calvary Cemetery, 2701 Willowdale Road, Portage, Indiana 46368 at the corner of Central Avenue and Willowdale Road.
