Jean Halsted, 100, of Merrillville, passed quietly in her sleep the evening of September 14, 2023.  She was born May 5, 1923, in Merrillville on the family farm to the late Albert and Alice (Boyd) Halsted.

Jean was a lifelong resident of Merrillville and inherited the family farm after her parents passed away and kept it working for many years.  She was an only child and never married, but Jean had many friends over the years, and enjoyed travelling to exotic places either with them, or on her own.  She was a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Eastern Stars.  She also enjoyed gardening and her long driveway was always ablaze with beautiful flowers she would tend.  Jean was an amazing lady who lived a long and wonderful life, she will be missed greatly.

Jean will be remembered by her special friends, Thomas and Lisa Kilar; honorary grandson, Hunter Kilar; and friends Betty Luciano, and Pat Garrett.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her faithful friend, Bernard Traster.

Visitation for Miss Halsted will be from 3:00pm – 7:00pm Thursday, September 21 at Rees Funeral Home Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN 46342.  Memories and condolences may be left at https://www.reesfuneralhomes.com/ .  There will be a graveside funeral service at 10:00am Friday, September 22 at Merrillville Cemetery on 73rd Avenue just east of Broadway in Merrillville.
