Jean Marie Putnam, age 88, of Hobart, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2026. She was born on December 19, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois.

Jean enjoyed watching television, especially professional wrestling and her favorite soap operas. She loved reading romance novels, spending time doing word-search puzzles, and playing games on her tablet, which she affectionately called her “tracer.” Jean also had a sweet tooth and especially enjoyed divinity and chocolate-covered cherries.

Jean will be lovingly remembered by her sons, John (Linda) Putnam and Charles Putnam; daughter, Joan (Rick) Olson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Thomas (Maria) LaCasse; and sister, Rosemary (Brian) VanWitzenburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Daisy LaCasse; her beloved husband, John Wesley Putnam, Sr.; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Johnna Putnam; brothers, James LaCasse and Jerry LaCasse; and sisters, Jacqueline LaCasse and Nancy Campbell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jean’s memory to the Humane Society of Hobart, 2054 East State Road 130, Hobart, Indiana 46342.

Visitation for Jean will be held Friday, September 4, 2026, at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m., and also at the funeral home. Burial of her cremains will take place at a later date at Evergreen Memorial Park.
