Jean "Gina" Reed of Valparaiso, Indiana, and formerly of Hobart, Indiana, and Palm Desert, California, died peacefully on Monday evening, August 25, 2014, in Valparaiso. Jean was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Jean was the wife of the late John J. Reed M.D. She is survived by her brother, Attorney John G. Spatuzza of Chicago, her daughter Marilyn (Rory Holscher) of Galena, Illinois, and by her sons Richard of Evanston, Illinois and Robert (Melissa) of Rogers, Arkansas. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kathleen Holscher (Alonso Indacochea) and Nathan Holscher (Emily Heintzelman), Benjamin Price, Karen Noland (Jacob), Bob Reed and Kelly Jean Reed (Marc Garza), and Jake and Sam Reed; and by her great-grandchildren Adeline, Simon and Henry Noland, Atticus Garza, and Josephine Indacochea.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Attorney George and Mildred
Spatuzza of Chicago and by her daughter Suzanne Price Psy.D. (Al) of
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Jean graduated from Providence High School and Mundelein College in Chicago where she was a member of Kappa Gamma Pi. Jean was a former member of St. Bridget Parish in Hobart where she was a co-director of the RCIA program and a Eucharistic minister. More recently, Jean was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Valparaiso where she served as a catechist for RCIA, a Eucharistic minister and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She leaves many cherished friends at St. Bridget and at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Jean's volunteer activities were dear to her. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority, and served as president of both its active and associate chapters. She was a past president of the Lake County Medical Auxiliary, and one of the founders and coordinators of the Hobart Meals on Wheels Program. With her husband, she volunteered for the Catholic Medical Mission's Work in the West Indies. Jean volunteered at the Radio Reading Service to the Blind and also at the Joan Martin Elementary School library in Hobart and as Eucharistic minister at St. Mary's Medical Center in Hobart. Her Hobart Bible Study Group meant the world to her, and, always an avid reader, she enjoyed her Book Club friends. Also, she cherished her partnership with her long time friend Joan Martin in the "Martin and Reed" dance and pantomime duo. Her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and her greatgrandchildren were the lights of her life. She leaves many dear friends who also were her "family away from family." Jean's family would like to thank the staffs of Senior Helpers and of the Arthur B. and Ethel V. Horton VNA Hospice Center for their skilled and compassionate care. Jean's family also thanks her dear friends for their love, faith and invaluable assistance.

Visitation is Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 509 W. Division St., Valparaiso, Indiana.
