Jean Tallant

Jean Tallant, age 86, of Portage, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 surrounded by her family.  She was born in Tyler, Texas on March 24, 1932 to the late George and Iva (nee Hooker) Lawson.  She was a devoted member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church where she was a past church secretary. Jean enjoyed reading and gardening in her free time. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother who will be missed by many.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Judy (David) Trathen; grandchildren, Tanya (James) Corbett, Tina Fischer, Jason (Bonita) Fischer, Douglas Tallant; great grandchildren, Courtney (Kyle) Ludford, Scott Cox, Emily Fischer; great-great grandchildren, Sophia Ludford, Emilia Ludford; and daughter in law, Debra Tallant.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dillard D. Tallant; son, Richard D. Tallant; brother, Robert Lawson; and sister, Helen Hunt.

A funeral service for Jean will take place Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Terry McKinney officiating at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, IN 46368.  Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery, Portage.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 10-12 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.  For more information, please call 219-762-3013.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.reesfuneralhomes.com.
