Jeanette Kesel (nee Niepokoj), age 97, of Crown Point, passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2026. She was born on July 10, 1928, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Stanley and Sophie Niepokoj. Jeanette graduated from Emerson High School in 1947. On July 16, 1949, she married Stanley M. Kesel, Jr., in Gary, Indiana.
Jeanette was a dedicated member and secretary for the Polish Women’s Alliance of America and formerly a member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church.
She was devoted to her family and made it a priority to be actively involved in her children’s lives. She generously gave her time serving as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and 4-H leader. Jeanette was an ambitious and hardworking woman who worked as a Realtor for Century 21 among many other occupations throughout her life.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (John) Pentangelo, Stanley M. Kesel III, Gregory (Beth) Kesel, Madeline (Jeff) Taylor, Arthur Kesel, and Rosemarie (William) Hittie; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruby Niepokoj; and many loving family members and friends.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley M. Kesel, Jr.; brothers, Chester (the late Bernice) Niepokoj, Leonard Niepokoj, and Sigmund (the late Elaine) Niepokoj.
Memorial contributions in Jeanette’s name may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 515 Northampton, MA 01061.
Visitation for Jeanette will be held Friday, May 29, 2026, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1855 W. Harrison Blvd., Valparaiso, from 9:30 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. She will be entombed at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville.
