Jeanette Emma Olson, (nee Munro), age 81, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011. She was born on April 15, 1930 in Gary, Indiana the daughter of Hugh and Winifred Munro. Jeanette was a 1948 graduate of East Gary Edison High School and graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She also attended Indiana University. Jeanette married Herbert Carl Olson on July 31, 1954 in Gary. Jeanette worked for over 21 years as a school nurse for the Gary Public Schools. Jeanette was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Portage where she served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary. Her great joy was traveling and taking vacations with her family.

Jeanette is survived by her loving family; son David (Margaret) Olson, Corona, California, daughters Cynthia (Daniel) Hoffman, Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Debra (Jeffrey) Davis, Costa Mesa, California, and Barbara (Michael) Vaughan, Portage, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister Marie (William) Frazier, Portage, sister-in-law JoAn Munro, Merrillville, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Herbert, her parents, and brother Robert Munro.

A visitation for Jeanette Olson will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 directly at the First Presbyterian Church of Portage, 6225 Lute Road, Portage with a funeral service following at 1 p.m. with Pastor Timothy Reyna, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jeanette's memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Portage.
