Jeffery L. Johnston

Jeffery L. Johnston "Jazzy", age 51, of Portage, IN passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

Jazzy was born on November 25, 1970 in Gary, IN to the late Stanley Johnston and Deborah Helge.  He worked for many years as a painter at his business Jazz It Up Painting.

Jazzy was a lover of animals, especially exotic birds.  He was the life of the party and a natural entertainer who could always get a belly laugh out of anyone.  He was incredibly generous, not hesitating to give you the shirt off of his back or to drop what he was doing to give someone else a hand.  He was very social and everybody knew Jazzy.  He loved to cook and host guests, often building your plate of food for you.  He was a fashionista, matching his shirts to his shoes to his sunglasses.  Jazzy was a devoted father, partner, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jazzy is survived by his children: Zakery (Katlyn) Johnston, Jazmyn (Andres) Johnston, Cory Parrott, and Devyn (Kyle) Feeney; granddaughter: Natalie Moss; long-term significant other and best friend: Dawn Eidman; mother: Deborah Helge; step-father: Bob "Boogaloo" Canada; sister: BobbyJean Canada; best friends/brothers: Kenny Johnson and Timmy T; and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and close friends.

Jazzy is preceded in death by his father: Stanley and his brother: Ricky Canada.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel (5341 Central Ave, Portage) on Friday, May 13, 2022 from 2:00-3:00 P.M.  A memorial service will take at 3:00 P.M.  Following services, a Celebration of Jazzy's life will take place at Riverview Park Log Cabin in Lake Station.
