Jeffrey Kent Liggett, 65, of Danville, formerly of Catlin, and more recently Portage, IN, passed away at 9:52 am Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
He was born February 11, 1957, in Danville, IL, the son of Gerald Dean and Karen Padgett Liggett. He married Mary Epperson on September 8, 2007, in Merrillville, IN. She survives. Also surviving: his mother, Karen Liggett of Danville, IL, two sons, Dustin (Tammy Leigh) Liggett of Oakwood, IL and Jason Liggett of Champaign, IL; two daughters, Britany (Brandon) Edwards of Indianola, IL and Claire (Dillon) Lane of San Antonio, TX; one step-daughter, Lindsay (Jeremy) Overton of Portage, IN; one brother, Steven (Cheryl) Liggett of Catlin, IL; one sister, Daphne (Jeffrey) Dexter of Wooster, Ohio; five grandchildren; Brayden Edwards, Gavin Edwards, Ramona Liggett, Cecilia Liggett, and Ashley Christine Overton; as well as three sisters-in-law; Jill Epperson of Lake Station, Indiana, Lynne Roth of Fort Myers, Florida, Charlotte (Eric) Goldberg, and an adopted son, Jermey Jones of Indianapolis, IN.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, one stepdaughter Ashley Burbee, and one granddaughter Brooklyn Edwards, He was a 1975 graduate of Catlin High School and a 1979 graduate of University of Illinois. He was an accomplished architect for over forty years, and a partner in the former Falk Liggett Design Company. Jeff was a member of the American Institute of Architects, and was past president and board member of the Portage Township YMCA, and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Hobart, Indiana. Jeff found joy in spending time with his children and attending sporting and musical events of his grandchildren. He led a life of helping others, which he continues even in death through cornea transplant and the donation of his body to science for medical research and education.
Services in Indiana will be at 12 noon Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Hobart (3561 Randolph Street, Hobart, IN), Visitation from 10am to 12noon Friday at the church. Memorials in Jeff's name to the Trinity United Methodist Church (3561 Randolph Street, Hobart, IN) or to Portage Township YMCA (3100 Willowcreek Rd, Portage, IN).
