Jennie Bode, age 90, a longtime resident of Portage passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2011. She was born on August 10, 1920 in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Frank and Julia Dimitrukovich. Jennie was married to Herman L. Bode on March 30, 1957 in Gary. She was a retired statistical typist and computer operator for Wonder Bread. Jennie was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church. Jennie enjoyed gardening, playing solitaire, and bowling. Her greatest joy was traveling to Maui with her husband.

Jennie is survived by her loving family; daughters Letitia (Lawrence) Bella, Valparaiso, and Rebecca (Gerald) Roach, Elkart, son Herman P. (Janet) Bode, Valparaiso, grandchildren Lori (Rich) Stanners, Lance (Dawn) Bella, Lynnette (John) Baier, Stephen (Tonda) Underwood, Robert Underwood, Spencer Roach, Ashley Roach, and 9 great grandchildren, very good friends Cindy Kirrin and Delores Rudnick, and other loving family and dear friends. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Herman L. Bode, sister Rosie Dimit, and brother Michael Dimitrukovich.

A visitation for Jennie Bode will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A funeral service will follow immediately at 1:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home with Reverend Ronald Deck, officiating. Burial will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary.
