Jennifer D. Herbert, age 38 of Portage and a lifetime Northwest Indiana resident passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015. She was born on July 8, 1976 in East Chicago, Indiana. She graduated from Merrillville High School in 1994. While at Merrillville High School she played volleyball and basketball. Jennifer was also a state track and field finalist in shot put and discus. She was an avid sports follower and loved reading and animals.

She is survived by her father, Edward "Tim" (Ronda) Herbert of Westville, IN; her mother, Linda Herbert of Chesterton, IN; one brother, Erik L. Herbert of Chesterton, IN; best friend and life partner, Scott E. Wilson of Portage, IN; one step-brother, Doug Homan of Westville, IN; and her K9 children, Nala, Ladie, and Diamond.

Memorial donations in Jennifer's honor may be made to your favorite animal rescue organization.

Funeral services are Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 9 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Terry Rhine officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Visitation is Friday, April 17, 2015 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
