Jeramy "Mitch" McWhirter, age 43 a longtime Portage resident passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015. . He was born on May 21, 1972 in Albany, Georgia. He worked as a boilermaker for Local #374. Mitch enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa McWhirter of Portage, IN; two sons, Michael McWhirter of Springfield, MO; Colin McWhirter of Portage, IN; one daughter, Annabelle McWhirter of Portage, IN; his parents, James and Lavada McWhirter of Lake Station, IN; two brothers, Mark (Victoria ) McWhirter of North Judson, IN; Mike (Kathy) McWhirter of Valparaiso, IN; grandma McWhirter, five uncles, Jack, Ron, Russ, Wild Bill and Randy, two Aunts, Barb and Betty and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of life gathering Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. with a memorial service from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post 100, 1899 Central Ave., Lake Station, Indiana with Pastor Scott Jones officiating.
