JERRY L. MELTON, age 57, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at home. Jerry had been a Portage/Valparaiso resident for 50 years and was retired from US Steel with 32 years of service. He was a former member of the Porter County Hawg Hunters Bass Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved being outdoors. Jerry was also a member of the United Steelworkers of America. There was nothing he loved more than being "Paw" to his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Donna Melton, 2 sons, Jeremy (Nicole) Melton of Portage and Ryan (Crystal) Melton of Valparaiso, 2 grandchildren, Logan and Lillian, brother, Mike (Kay) Melton of Galesburg, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Mary Ruth Melton. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Porter County VNA Hospice would be appreciated.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 6:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, with Rev. Ronnie Cox officiating.
