Obituary

Jerry Merl Quillen July 6, 1944 – June 13, 2026

Jerry Merl Quillen, age 81, of Hobart, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026. He was born on July 6, 1944, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Johney and Erma Quillen.

A proud 1962 graduate of Hobart High School, Jerry went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy. On November 21, 1964, he married the love of his life, Marianne Dunn, and together they shared 54 years of marriage filled with love, family, and memories.

Jerry dedicated 32 years of hard work and service to US Steel, where he retired in 1996 as a Foreman. He was a man who enjoyed the thrill of the search and had a special talent for finding hidden treasures. He loved rummaging, collecting unique finds, and sharing his discoveries with others through the barn sales he held twice a year. Jerry’s passion for uncovering treasures brought him much joy and created many lasting memories for those who knew him.

Above all, Jerry cherished his family. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Melissa (Bill) Husk; granddaughter, Peyton (Paul) Montemayer; great-grandchildren, Quinn, Avery, Piper, and Wrenn; and his dear friend, Rick Fahey.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marianne Quillen; his daughter, Michelle Arnold; and his close friend, Dave Frizzell.

Per Jerry’s wishes, there will be no services. Cremation was entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.reesfuneralhomes.com.
