JOAN T. YURKO, age 86, of Hobart, passed away Monday, November 11, 2024. She was born on May 19, 1938 to the late Frank and Anne Benka. Joan worked for US Steel as a computer programmer for many years. She was a member of the Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church. Joan enjoyed watching and playing sports, especially golf, landscaping and gardening.  She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Joan is survived by her son, Rick (Suzette) Yurko; 2 grandsons, Ryan (Erin) Yurko and Matt Yurko; great grandchildren, Annabelle and Wyatt; sister, Diane (Tom) Corder; sister-in-law, Linda Benka; nephews and nieces, Michael (Christy) Corder, Tricia Corder, Chris Benka, and Tina (Chris) Pavlou and; great niece, Alyssa Pavlou; great nephew, Niko Pavlou; other loving family and friends.

She was also recently preceded in death by her brother, Mike Benka.

Visitation for Joan will be Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, with Rev. Jacob Van Sickle officiating. Burial will take place Monday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery.
