Joel H Hernandez

Joel H. Hernandez, age 93, of Lake Station, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018. He was born on June 26, 1924 in Monterrey, Mexico to Luis and Sara Hernandez. On July 29, 1977, he married Dolores Rodriguez, who preceded him in death. He retired from US Steel South Chicago Works where he worked as a millwright. In his free time, Joel bowled in the Great Eagles Senior League at Ray's Lanes and the Young at Heart League at Camelot Lanes. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Station.

Joel is survived by his son, Joel Hernandez of Schererville and formerly of Chicago; daughters, Rosa (Harry) Sideris of Chicago, IL, Cecilia Kantzioris of Schererville, Beverly Carson of Portland, OR, Kimberly (Norman) Dehnart of Lake Station, Lydia (Art) Guel of Seattle, WA; 6 grandchildren, Nicholas Kantzioris, Christofer Kantzioris, Alexander Kantzioris, Courtney (Chris) Miller, Jordan Guel, Peyton Guel; great grandchildren, Cloey and Melanie Kantzioris; brothers, Eduardo (Renee) Hernandez, Luis (Magdalena) Hernandez; sisters-in-law, Pura Hernandez, Patricia (Skip Bourque) Thomas, Sylvia Catherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Sara Hernandez; brothers, Armando Hernandez, Enrique Hernandez and Abel Hernandez; sister, Rosa de Rivera.

Visitation for Joel will take place Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN 46342. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:00 am directly at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2447 Putnam Street, Lake Station with Rev. David Kime officiating.
