IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John R.
Bailey
August 21, 1950 – January 20, 2024
John Robert Bailey, 73, a lifelong resident of Ogden Dunes, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at his home. He was born in Gary, Indiana to Robert and Sarah (Dorman) Bailey. Growing up on the shores of Lake Michigan and spending every summer at Culver Academy, John developed passions for boating, travel, photography, and cooking. John graduated from Portage High School in 1968 and received his bachelor's degree from DePauw University in 1972. John was involved in commercial real estate throughout his career working at International Harvester and Sears. John spent over thirty years working for Marcus & Millichap, most recently as First Vice President of Investments.
Masonic roots have run deep in the Bailey family for many generations. As a result of his belief that one should selflessly serve their community, John started his Masonic journey in his youth as a member of the Steel City Chapter of DeMolay. He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in 1973. He became a member of Orak Shrine in Michigan City, Indiana in 1984 and was a member of Porter Lodge #137.
John's greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Debby (Bill) and his sister-in-law, Kris (Jim); his cousin, Geoff (Julie) Slaughter; his nieces, Lauren (Brock) Shipley, Leslie (Adam) Marlatt; his nephews, Robert (Jacqueline) Bailey, Jordan (Emily Richardson-Rossbach) Bailey, Ross (Jessica) Bailey; his grandnephews, Isaac, Henry, Beau, Finn, and Zander; his grandnieces, Harper, Aubree, Adalyn, and Parker; and was looking forward to meeting one more grandniece or grandnephew in June.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert B. Bailey; mother, Sarah (Dorman) Bailey; and brothers, James T. Bailey and William S. Bailey.
A private family celebration of John's life will be held later this summer. Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel is providing support to the family in their time of need. For more information, please call (219) 762-3013. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.reesfuneralhomes.com.
