John William Chontos, age 89 of Hobart passed away, Wednesday, April 13, 2016. He was born on February 14, 1927 in Gary, Indiana. John was a World War II United States Navy Veteran who served his country proudly on the USS North Carolina. He loved golfing, the Brickies, the Blackhawks and doing yardwork. He especially loved watching his grandson, Jordan, and his granddaughter, Majken, play for the Brickies. John loved all animals big and small.
He is survived by two sons, Jon (Karen) Chontos of Hobart, IN; Steve Chontos of Hobart, IN; one daughter, Shari (Troy) Lemon of Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren, Majken Chontos, and Jordan Chontos, one step-brother, Phillip (Janet) Buzolitz, and "adopted" daughter, Lori Zenak, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Chontos in 2006.
Funeral services are Monday, April 18, 2016 beginning with 9:30 a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart and proceeding to St Bridget Church for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino and Rev. Gerald H. Schweitzer concelebrating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.
