John R. Davis, age 83, of Hobart and formerly of Hammond passed away Sunday April 12, 2015 at Miller's Merry Manor in Portage. John was a Superintendent for Blaw Knox Foundry in East Chicago who retired after more than thirty years of service. John was born July 8, 1931 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Oscar and Moira Eileen (Clifton) Davis. John was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Hammond and attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church locally. John was a self-taught drummer and pianist, whose favorite things were to fish on his property along Deep River and driving around town. John and Carmen took in family members when in need and helped many people throughout their lives. Both John and Carmen were devoted Catholics and pillars of their community.
John was the patriarch of a large family, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Carmen Davis. John is survived by his daughter Deborah (Ronald) Hutman of Hobart; two grandchildren David (Kathleen) Logsdon and Tracy (John) Dusard; three great grandchildren Jeff Logsdon, Rachelle Logsdon and Jennifer Dusard; three great great grandchildren Amiya Harman, Ethan Sakon and Mackenzie Sakon; one sister Patricia Trinkle; his nephew Richard (Cindy) Whitmore and his children, Heather, Tommy, Becky, Tracy, and Tammy; and many other family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday at All Saints Catholic Church 570 Sibley Street Hammond. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-10 am Thursday at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, Indiana 46342.
