John Thomas Dudley

John Thomas Dudley, age 89, a longtime resident of Hobart passed away on Monday, February 28, 2011. He was born on April 7, 1921 in Omaha, Nebraska the son of Jay and Elizabeth Dudley. John served his country in the United States Marine Corps – 1st Marine Division - South Pacific - World War II. John moved to Hobart in 1952 and became very active with the community. He served as publisher of the Hobart Gazette and also owned 3 printing franchises in Chicago. John was a member of the American Legion Post 54, the V.F.W. Post 5365 and the Marine Corps League. He also served on the Hobart School Board, the Hobart Chamber of Commerce, and was a Rotarian. John was the Grand Marshal of the 4th of July Parade in 2000. John greatly enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
John is survived by his loving family; wife Marion Dudley, Hobart, daughter Marion (Dr. David) Deal, Defiance, Ohio, son John Thomas Dudley, II, Marietta, Georgia, grandchildren John Deal, Akron, Ohio, and Katherine Hunter, Defiance, Ohio, great-granddaughter Jocelynne Hunter, sister Jayne Blakeman, Omaha, Nebraska, nephew John Blakeman, Omaha, Nebraska, and brother A. James (Kathy) Dudley, Yuma, Arizona, numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family and dear friends. John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jay Dudley.
A memorial visitation for John Dudley will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 12, 2011 directly at Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1360 South State Street, Hobart with a memorial service following immediately at 12:00 noon with Father Richard Phelps, officiating. Memorials in John's memory may be made to Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church.
