Obituary

Juan Manuel Duron "John" (Papa, Meme), of Portage, was called to be with the
Lord on January 28th, 2022 at the age of 85. He passed away peacefully at home
surrounded by loved ones. We will continue to celebrate his life and the truly
incredible example of love that he showed us always. John was born on
November 3rd, 1936 in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico to the late Feliciano and
Leonor (nee Aguirre) Duron. At the age of 9, his family moved to Northwest
Indiana where he grew up closely with his brothers and sisters. John was a
military veteran, and proudly served in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne
Division, from 1958 to 1960. John met the love of his life, Trina (his "Lovie"), in
July of 1976 and they were married in December of the same year. They spent 45
wonderful years together and grew more in love as the years passed. He was the
most devoted and adoring husband there ever was.

John was a great man and such an amazing father. There was nothing he would
not do for his children. He was a proud and silly Papa to many grandchildren who
loved him so much. John spent much of his time finding creative ways to
entertain them and found joy in making them laugh. He was always full of energy
and had a hard time sitting still. It wasn't uncommon to see him in the swimming
pool or jumping on the trampoline with the kids. John's love of life shone through
in everything he did. He was known for his jokes and could rarely make it to the
punchline without making himself laugh. He loved to take Trina on dates. You
could often find them at the legion splitting a beer, out dancing the night away, or
sitting in their garage with a glass of wine listening to their favorite tunes. He
made friends everywhere he went and made a lasting impression on so many. He
was a handyman and could fix anything, most often with a roll of duct tape. He
enjoyed being outside finding things to do around the yard, and in his later years,
climbing up ladders that he had no business climbing. He took his family on many
memorable vacations and was always ready for the next adventure.
John had a very close relationship with the Lord and raised his children to know
God. He rarely missed a Sunday Mass, even if it was at home when he could not
attend in person. He was an avid Catholic and found comfort in knowing his
Savior.

John had a beautiful and contagious smile and he sure was handsome. He was
loved by so many and will be dearly missed and always remembered in our
hearts.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Trina, and children: Dolores (Eric),
Beth (Dan), Anthony (Mark), Joe, Greg, Mary (Don), Johnny, Lisa, Maria, Christine
(Rene) and Tina (Rock); 51 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: Mary,
Elsa, Mike, Jesse, Robert, Henry, Jenny, Irma, David, and Alice. He was preceded
in death by 6 siblings: Esperanza, Marianito, Mario, Felix, Patricia, and Lolita.
