John "Michael" Fliris
passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the age of 68, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 14,1956 to the late John and Sandra (nee Beasley) Fliris in Evergreen Park, Illinois. At the age of 17, Michael's decision to join the Marine Corps was a testament to his patriotism and courage. On October 11, 1997, Michael married the love of his life Cindy Clemens and they built a beautiful life together in Valparaiso, Indiana. Michael's unwavering devotion and love for his family were evident in every aspect of his life, as he consistently prioritized their happiness above all else. Michael's grandchildren brought immense joy to his life, and he was exceptionally thoughtful in involving them in activities they each enjoyed, making them feel truly special. He recently retired from NIPSCO after dedicating over 45 years of service. Michael was a devoted member of Hobart Assembly of God, where his faith was a cornerstone of his life. He had a passion for a wide range of activities, such as fishing, boating, drawing, photography, dancing, snowmobiling, and enjoying Motown music. Michael's love for candy was a testament to his sweet soul, always brightening the lives of those around him. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad "pops", papa, great-papa, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Fliris; seven children, Jessica "Dolly" (Steve "Sweet Cheeks") Batusic, Candice "Danners" (Dustin Johnson) Fliris, Christopher (Desiree) Fliris, John Michael Farris, Nichole (Jim) Bellar, Courtney (Jason) Quigg and Alan Woelk; 24 grandchildren, Josh (Brevyn), Caylyn (Zack), Jake, Tyler (Kim), Lexi, Cameron, Johnathon, AJ, Hunter, Kaylee, Ellie, Caden, Tessa, Adey, Ashland, Matt, Olivia, Sammy, Maddy, Britain, Parker, Zane, Tristan and Evelyn; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mishelle (Mike) Pudelek, Jackie (Ron) Reid and Jamie (John) Warosh; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Clemens and Norman (Barb) Clemens and many other loving family members and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeff Fliris; brother-in-law, John Clemens; and sister-in-law, Diane Clemens.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 6:00 pm at Rees Funeral Homes 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342. The visitation for Michael will also be held Friday, February 7, 2025, from 12:00 pm. until the time of service.
