John Gavelek, age 77, of Hobart, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 18, 1938 in Gary, Indiana to the late Henry and Mary Wolfe. John began his career at Nipsco, in 1959, working his way up to being the head of the gas street department. In his free time, John enjoyed fishing in Arkansas and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hobart and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. On April 2, 1960 John married the love of his life Linda Clingan in Hobart, Indiana. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Linda (nee Clingan) Gavelek; son, John Jeffery Gavelek of Hobart; daughters, Julie Lynn Clark and Lisa Ann Mayer both of Hobart; grandchildren, David Clark, Rachel Walker and Lindsay Mayer; six great-grandchildren, Kayla, Ty, Wyatt, Dylan, Claire and Jake; brother-in-law, Bill (Bette) Clingan; sister-in-law, Connie (Frank) Davies; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
He is preceded in death by his son David Scott Gavelek, his parents; sisters Judy Loomis and Pat Fulton.
