John H. Gourlay, Sr.

John H. Gourlay, Sr., age 80, of Portage, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022.  He was born in Gary, Indiana on August 15, 1941 to the late John W. and Elizabeth (nee Faulkenthal) Gourlay.  John was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School, Class of 1961.  John was a United States Army veteran.  He owned the Tom's distributorship in Wheeler, IN. for 47 years.  (N&J Tom's Sales)

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy (nee Cochran) Gourlay; son, John (Brenda) Gourlay of Hobart; daughter, Rebecca (Tom) Escoe of Crown Point; grandchildren, Amanda Gourlay, John (Courtney) Gourlay, Matthew McNally, Hailey Escoe, Thomas M. Escoe; great grandchildren, John Oliver Gourlay, Tommy M. Escoe Jr.; sister, Linda (Tom) Davies; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his son, Brett M. Gourlay; his parents; and grand daughter Tanya M. Escoe.

John enjoyed the company of friends at the Maria Reiner Center (MRC) in Hobart, playing cards and Dominoes.  He enjoyed playing games and cards with family and friends.

Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, March 26th from 1PM – 4PM at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd. Hobart, Indiana 46342. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm.  For more information, please call 219-942-2109.
