John (also known as Steve, John, J, or Jay) Stephen Hunt (age 66) of Portage passed away at his home on January 2 ^nd , 2022. He was born in Gary on September 5 ^th , 1955 to Glendle and Zelma Hunt. He was retired from Bethlehem Steel and was the owner / manager of J's Auto Sales in Lake Station.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Julie Hunt; son Jason (Kelli) Bovenkerk; grandchildren Gavin and Haylei Bovenkerk; brothers Greg (Barb) Hunt; Carl Hunt, Adam Puskac, and Matthew Puskac; sister Jeanette Wilson; and extended family and friends too numerous to name.

He enjoyed pursuing his love of cars, including the ongoing maintenance of his 1955 Ford Customline he owned since he was 14; and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren as he was a kid at heart. He was always available to lend his opinion or a helping hand. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on January 15 ^th , 2022 from 1-6pm at the VFW Post 9323, at 2750 Central Ave in Lake Station, IN 46405.  Arrangements entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
