JOHN J. KONSKI, age 97 of Portage, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at VNA Hospice in Valparaiso. He was a Technical Sergeant in the 463rd Air Service Squadron of the 9th Army Air Force in WWII. He served in both the European and Pacific Theaters during the war. John was a lifelong bachelor who enjoyed fishing and gardening. Before enlisting in the army he worked for the Ann Arbor, Michigan Railroad. After the service he worked in a refrigerator and air conditioning factory in Hammond, IN and then was a union construction welder for many years. John was a life member in the Izaak Walton League Miller Chapter, a Life member of the American Legion Post 260, Portage, and a Lifetime Charter Member of the World War II Memorial Society.
John is survived by his sisters, Helen Randon and Jane Saims, both of Portage; numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
A funeral service for John will be Friday, September 10, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, with Rev. Andrew Corona officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery.
